Chula Vista DUI Crash Involving San Diego Police Officer

A San Diego DUI crash in Chula Vista that happened over the weekend allegedly involved a San Diego Police Officer.

The alleged Chula Vista DUI crash occurred about 11:30 p.m. on west Telegraph Canyon Road when off duty San Diego Police Officer William Johnson crashed his Lexus into a BMW injuring a passenger inside.

The 12 year police veteran was suspected of driving while intoxicated at the time of the alleged San Diego DUI crash. Johnson was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and was released on his own recognizance, according to Chula Vista PD Captain Gary Wedge.

According to Wedge, “If there are serious injuries, if the person is a repeat offender, in circumstances such as that, the person would go to county jail.” “Generally, they are released on their own recognizance, Wedge said. Johnson was placed on a paid administrative leave. Since February, there have been seven San Diego Police officers including Johnson put under investigation for DUI or other misconduct.

If you have a 0.08 percent or more by weight, of alcohol in your blood, you will be charged with a DUI if apprehended. You could be facing fines and jail time if convicted.
